What happened

Snorre Fagerland, principal threat researcher at NorForge, said in a report published Monday that a Chinese-speaking hacker broke into the websites of more than 100 companies. According to the researcher, AI agents did almost all of the work.

Cost and tooling

The attacks relied on Cairn, an open-source AI platform. Fagerland put the cost of each intrusion at around $50, suggesting agents are making cyberattacks cheaper and faster to carry out.

Why it matters

The report adds to a growing string of incidents in which AI agents have crossed security boundaries. It stands out for showing how a single actor can run attacks at scale with agents, and it feeds the debate over misuse of open-source models.
