In brief

At an event in Berlin, NVIDIA announced it is expanding its sovereign cloud and open model framework with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) for public service broadcasters. Adobe Frame.io is also accelerating video search with NVIDIA GPUs, helping producers like UFA find the right moments faster.

  • Expanded sovereign cloud and open model framework with EBU
  • Local processing via Microsoft Azure Local and Foundry Local
  • Model training on European infrastructure from Nebius
  • Customization with NVIDIA Nemotron open models
  • Up to 5x faster embedding generation in Adobe Frame.io
  • New proxy with ~80% smaller file size

Sovereign broadcasting infrastructure from EBU and NVIDIA

NVIDIA and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) are expanding the sovereign standards they introduced last year. The initiative brings together sovereign cloud providers, open model developers and systems integrators to define how broadcasters can deploy AI agents while keeping control of their data, infrastructure, models and security.

The EBU is an alliance of public service media with over 115 member organizations in more than 55 countries, reaching over 1 billion people. As agents move into newsrooms, production and audience services, broadcasters need a foundation that protects editorial independence, data sovereignty and national resilience.

Which companies are involved?

Microsoft will bring expertise from Microsoft Sovereign Cloud, including Azure Local and Foundry Local, so broadcasters can process sensitive editorial material locally. Nebius offers a platform for broadcasters to train, fine-tune and run their own models on European infrastructure. NVIDIA Nemotron open models provide a foundation broadcasters can customize for local languages and archives. Systems integrators such as Qvest will ensure reference architectures are practical and deployable.

GPU-accelerated search in Adobe Frame.io

Adobe is enhancing video search capabilities in Frame.io with NVIDIA accelerated computing. The GPU-accelerated search pipeline uses NVIDIA NVDEC for video decoding, TensorRT for AI inference and the CUDA platform for preprocessing and embedding generation.

According to the company, this delivers about 5x faster embedding generation, up to 4x higher throughput and up to 5x lower latency for search processing. A new two-frame-per-second proxy, about 80% smaller than the 360p version it replaces, cuts storage and transfer while keeping the visual detail search needs.

Why it matters

The move shows how European public broadcasters are adopting AI while preserving data sovereignty, and how NVIDIA is pushing GPU acceleration into media production workflows.
