Official warning issued
Turkey's Cybersecurity Agency has published a security warning, saying scam attempts carried out over WhatsApp have risen sharply recently. The notice underlines the importance of account security on an app used by millions for daily communication.
Why it matters
WhatsApp accounts are targeted through impersonation, fake campaigns and phishing links. Because a hijacked account can be used to reach the victim's contacts with the same tactics, the risk can spread in a chain.
What users should do
- Keep two-step verification enabled.
- Avoid clicking links from unknown numbers.
- Never share verification codes with anyone.
- Report suspicious messages and accounts through the app.
The agency stresses that users should be cautious of requests coming from outside official channels.
