An end to the single-brand era
Turkey's Competition Authority has lifted the exclusivity arrangement on electric vehicle charging stations along the North Marmara Highway. Exclusivity meant a single operator held privileged rights to provide service; with the change, different brands can compete on equal terms along the route.
What changes for drivers
The most concrete effect is more choice. Drivers will no longer be tied to one operator and can use stations from different brands, which could bring competition on price and service quality.
Why it matters
As the number of electric vehicles grows, long-distance charging infrastructure becomes critical. Opening high-traffic routes like highways to competition is key to expanding charging networks and keeping prices reasonable.
The decision opens the highway charging market to new players and will require existing operators to adjust their terms.
