Four MoUs signed in Seoul

Turkey and South Korea are expanding their partnership in technology and defense. During talks in Seoul, four separate memoranda of understanding were signed, covering areas from science and technology to nuclear energy.

What is covered?

The agreements stand out on three fronts:

  • Artificial intelligence: AI-focused cooperation between the two countries
  • Semiconductors: A basis for partnership on chip supply and production
  • Defense industry: Broadening cooperation in defense technologies

Memoranda of understanding record the parties' intent and are largely non-binding. In other words, this step draws the framework for cooperation; a timeline for concrete projects has not yet been announced.

Why it matters

Semiconductors are the most critical link in AI hardware. South Korea is a global player in memory and chip production. Turkey's contacts in this area could open a door to supply and joint production for both its defense industry and its AI infrastructure.
