Fab to focus on HBM base dies

Citing industry sources, South Korea's Maeil Business Newspaper reported that Samsung will use its second chip plant in Taylor, Texas, to make AI memory parts for AMD and Nvidia.

The plant will produce base dies for high-bandwidth memory (HBM). This is the logic layer at the bottom of stacked memory chips that connects AI processors to memory.

Why it matters

HBM is one of the most critical components in AI accelerators, and production capacity and supply chains determine how quickly chipmakers can respond to AI demand.

Shifting US production toward this area is notable for regional supply and for relationships with major customers. The report rests on a single outlet's sources, however, and no company confirmation has been issued.
