What's happening
Facebook is hosting a large number of accounts that publish AI-generated videos showing coaches inappropriately touching young female athletes. The clips are set in gyms and dance studios, with gymnastics, ballet and yoga scenes; precise ages aren't specified, but some athletes look as young as teenagers. The videos are nearly photorealistic, and the touching is framed as coaching.
Reported, but not removed
Using an ordinary Facebook account, Futurism reported ten accounts publishing this content for adult content and sexual exploitation. A week later, the platform said eight of the accounts did not violate its Community Standards and would not be removed. Two accounts disappeared, though it's unclear whether the reports played a role.
What experts say
Gymnast and safe-sport advocate Kim Shore, who consults with Gymnasts for Change International, called the material abusive. She said the most disturbing part is how easily inappropriate conduct can be disguised as playful or helpful coaching, reinforcing narratives that have allowed abuse to flourish in sport.
Why it matters
Some clips attract more than 100,000 views each. Meta's response renews debate over where platforms draw the line on AI-generated content, child safety and moderation.
