A prototype in three months
According to The Information, Meta worked with Chinese robotics company Fourier to build a humanoid robot prototype in roughly three months. The robot, known internally as "Max", weighs about 48 kilograms.
A second version is underway
The two sides are already working on a second version of the robot, the report says, citing people familiar with the matter. Neither Meta nor Fourier has issued an official statement.
Why it matters
Meta has been signalling that it wants to push its AI investments into hardware and the physical world. Humanoid robots are seen as one way to give language models a body, and partnering with a Chinese robotics firm looks like a bid for speed in that race.
Not yet confirmed
The details rest on a single report. There is no public information yet on the robot's capabilities, production plans or commercial goals.
