What the draft shows
The Wall Street Journal has seen a new draft of Anthropic's S-1, the prospectus for its IPO. It puts the company's possible compute spend at up to $750bn over the coming years, including deals it is still negotiating.
Reuters' Echo Wang also reviewed the draft and reported an $80.7bn loss.
Why it matters
Compute is the biggest cost line for companies building large language models. Anthropic's potential spending ceiling illustrates the scale of the AI race. The company had previously been linked to various cloud partnerships and compute supply deals.
Figures are still draft-stage
The S-1 is a draft, so the spending and loss figures are not final and may change as the IPO process moves forward. They should be read as an indication of the company's possible plans rather than confirmed commitments.
