Networks become AI carriers

NVIDIA, Nokia and leading telecom operators announced a collaboration to turn networks into distributed AI platforms. The goal is to move models and applications closer to users and businesses by running them in central data centers as well as metro and cell sites.

Key milestones

  • T-Mobile completed the world's first AI-RAN call on a live network in Bellevue, Washington, with NVIDIA and Nokia.
  • BT, Deutsche Telekom, Elisa and Orange are trialing Nokia's CUDA-accelerated anyRAN software on NVIDIA Aerial RAN Computer (ARC) on live networks.
  • Elisa completed Europe's first AI-RAN field trial, running voice, mobile data and vision AI on a single platform over 5G.
  • Nine EMEA operators are building or expanding NVIDIA-powered infrastructure across centralized and distributed sites.

Open models and autonomous networks

Nokia and Cisco are incorporating NVIDIA Nemotron open models into their software to develop agents for autonomous network operations. NVIDIA also introduced new Aerial RAN Computer configurations for high-capacity sites.

Why it matters

Telecom operators already own data centers, regional sites and cell sites with power, fiber and spectrum. Adding NVIDIA accelerated computing and open models turns these networks into a distributed platform capable of running AI applications directly.
