AT&T and AST SpaceMobile achieve first cellular-to-satellite handoff, cutting switch time to milliseconds
AT&T and AST SpaceMobile said they demonstrated the industry's first seamless handoff between a ground-based cellular network and a direct-to-device satellite network on October 21 in Washington state. With Ericsson and Nokia infrastructure, the switch time dropped from seconds to milliseconds; the technology is not yet ready for commercial use and will first go through field trials.
