Agent freedom in Android Studio
Google added a feature called "Bring Your Own Agent" to Android Studio. With it, developers can use more than 40 coding agents directly in the IDE, including Anthropic's Claude Agent and OpenAI's Codex.
Faster UI work
According to Google, the new terminal tools let agents complete UI tasks 77 percent faster while using up to three times fewer tokens. In other words, agents deliver results both quicker and more economically.
New Gemini APIs
The report also says Google unveiled new Gemini APIs. Details are not included in the source text, but the announcement shows Android development is increasingly becoming agent-centric.
What it means
Android development is shifting from a single assistant to a model where developers can choose among different AI agents. This increases tool variety and lets developers pick the agent that fits their workflow.
