Agents hit a wall on the web
Autonomous AI agents are the hottest thing in AI. OpenAI, Meta, Google, Instinct and others promise their agents can scour the internet on your behalf, booking dinner reservations, cleaning out your inbox and buying new shoes. But according to The Verge, a growing number of sites are refusing that traffic.
Which services are affected?
In recent weeks, users of Meta's Muse, xAI's Grok, OpenAI's Dots and Instinct have reported blocks preventing their agents from completing tasks across top websites. Yelp told TechCrunch it only allows AI agents that pay for its data licensing program, while Delta Air Lines is preventing agents from booking tickets.
Why it matters
For agents to be useful, third-party sites have to accept them. Sites, meanwhile, are tightening access to block bot traffic, scraping and fraud. The standoff is emerging as one of the most concrete obstacles to the agent economy.
