Two new documents

OpenAI published two policy documents on AI infrastructure: the National Community Compact and the Compute Campus Policy Blueprint. According to the company, they are meant to protect local resources, create jobs and guide responsible infrastructure development in the regions where data centers and compute campuses are built.

Why now

Training and running AI models requires large amounts of compute and energy, which has fueled tension with local communities over water, electricity and land use. OpenAI's announcement is the company's policy response to that debate.

Scope

The company says the documents are intended to guide local governments and communities as they evaluate infrastructure projects. The announcement did not include specific investment figures, dates or target regions.
