What was announced?
Google introduced a software development kit (SDK) for Quick Share at its developer summit. The kit lets developers embed file sharing directly into their own apps.
What iPhone support means
Quick Share has so far been mainly a proximity-based tool for Android devices. With the new SDK, Google aims to enable file transfers between iPhone and Android from inside apps, so users do not have to switch to a separate app or screen to share.
What changes for developers
The SDK offers developers a ready-made sharing layer. The goal is to standardize cross-platform sharing by moving send and receive steps into the app's own interface. The move can be read as an effort to widen Quick Share's reach against Apple's AirDrop.
