AI at enterprise scale

On October 21, 2026, Microsoft announced that Volkswagen Group has equipped more than 330,000 employees with Microsoft Copilot. According to the company, this marks the latest step in the automaker's phased approach to AI adoption.

From chat to workflow

Volkswagen's rollout began by giving employees broad access to Copilot Chat, which the company says drew upwards of 300,000 monthly active users. Employees now use Copilot with Work IQ for more advanced productivity scenarios, embedding AI deeper into processes spanning engineering, production, procurement and sales.

Agents at work

Microsoft says more than 26,000 agents were active across the group in the past month alone, framing this as AI moving from a personal productivity tool to part of the corporate workflow.

Data foundation expands

The two companies intend to scale Volkswagen Group's unified data ecosystem, the Intelligent Data Foundation, on Microsoft Fabric so trusted data is easier to find and use across the company. The collaboration will also be featured at the Microsoft AI Tour in Cologne on October 22, 2026.
