Agentic software delivery

At GitHub Universe 2026, GitHub shared a vision that spans the entire software development lifecycle. According to the company, developers no longer write every line of code; they direct AI agents. The goal remains the same: ship completed software work.

Featured products

  • GitHub Copilot app: Brings the issue-to-merge process into a single agent-first surface. It also supports writing specs, presenting design discussions and analyzing telemetry.
  • Copilot Fusion: Automatically chooses how to execute a task across one or more models based on needs such as reasoning, code generation, debugging and tool use. GitHub says Fusion Max scored within two points of Opus 5.5 Max on the Artificial Analysis Coding Agent Index at half the cost and 40% less time per task.
  • Copilot projects: Lets developers run agent work across multiple repos in fully managed, parallel sessions, with progress tracked in one place.
  • Session continuity: The same cloud agent session continues across the GitHub app, VS Code, CLI and web.
  • Copilot automations: Lets teams create AI-powered workflows in a repo that run manually, on an event or on a schedule, for tasks such as issue triage and code review.

Why it matters

GitHub aims to turn developer tools from a set of individual features into an end-to-end delivery system. The company also says it will make underlying primitives available for those who want to build bespoke solutions.
