Oracle to sell Google's TPUs in its cloud and put ChatGPT in its apps

AINew1 min read

In brief

Oracle will rent out Google's tensor processing units (TPUs) in its cloud starting in 2027, making it the first hyperscale cloud outside Google to offer the chips. The company is also integrating OpenAI's ChatGPT and Codex into its business software. Both deals were announced on 27 October at Oracle AI World in Las Vegas.

A two-part move from Oracle

Oracle announced two separate deals on 27 October at its Oracle AI World event in Las Vegas. The first covers renting Google's tensor processing units (TPUs) in Oracle's cloud starting in 2027. This makes Oracle the first hyperscale cloud provider outside Google to offer TPUs.

TPUs are custom chips developed by Google for AI workloads. The move means cloud customers will have a hardware option beyond NVIDIA.

ChatGPT and Codex in business software

The second deal is with OpenAI. Oracle will integrate ChatGPT and Codex into its business applications. Codex is known as OpenAI's model family focused on code writing and development.

This integration means AI-powered assistant and coding capabilities will be available to users within Oracle's enterprise software packages.

Why it matters

By bringing in both Google TPUs and OpenAI models, Oracle signals a broader industry shift: major cloud providers are moving away from single-vendor dependence and offering a mix of hardware and model options. The company had previously brought together chip makers such as NVIDIA, AMD, Intel and Cerebras under OCI.

Why it matters

This story matters because it shows how cloud and AI infrastructure is moving away from single-vendor dependence and how AI is being embedded into enterprise software.
