First qualification firing completed

ASELSAN's KGK-84 Winged Guidance Kit passed its first qualification range firing from an F-16 platform at the Sinop firing range. In the test, the kit reached 100 kilometers and struck the target.

What does it do?

The KGK-84 converts 2000 lb (roughly 900 kilogram) general-purpose and bunker-buster bombs into long-range smart munitions. With wings and guidance hardware added, the bomb can be directed to targets far beyond its release point.

Why it matters

The long range allows the aircraft to carry out its mission without entering the target's air defense umbrella. This reduces risk to both the aircraft and the pilot while increasing the value of existing bomb stocks.

The process

Completing the first qualification firing is a significant step toward the system's entry into inventory. ASELSAN did not share detailed data on the test results with the public.
