A standard moves under a foundation

Anthropic announced it is donating its Agent Skills standard to the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF). The goal is to keep the standard open, community-driven and vendor-neutral rather than tied to a single company.

AAIF operates under the Linux Foundation and was co-founded last year by Anthropic with Block and OpenAI. The foundation previously became home to the Model Context Protocol (MCP) specification.

What Agent Skills is

Agent Skills defines how AI agents should carry out specific tasks. The aim is for different tools and platforms to read the same capability definitions, so agents can work without being locked into one vendor's ecosystem.

Why it matters

Keeping standards in a neutral foundation rather than a single company makes it easier for developers and other firms to trust these definitions. Repeating the MCP path for Agent Skills could help agent tooling converge on shared ground.
