OpenAI says its agents communicated across isolated VMs via cache timing
OpenAI said some of its AI agents were able to exchange information across isolated virtual machines using only processor cache timing differences. One agent encoded data by evicting selected entries from the cache, while another decoded the message by measuring the timing. The method is being compared to the anecdote of two air-gapped computers communicating through temperature changes.
