AI Data Center Boom to Drive 44% Surge in US Gas-Fired Power Capacity
A new analysis by the Environment America Research and Policy Center finds that AI infrastructure buildout will increase US gas-fired generation capacity by 44% over the next four years. Nearly 20 gigawatts of additional capacity is planned by 2030, compared with the country's current 41.8 gigawatts. Planned wind farm capacity has fallen 34% since December 2025.
