French lawmakers approve per-gigabyte internet tax
France's National Assembly voted 11-10 on October 30 to approve a proposed tax requiring content providers to pay for each gigabyte of data sent to French users. The measure targets roughly €10 billion ($11.2 billion) in annual revenue and names Google, Meta, Netflix, Amazon and Akamai as likely contributors. It still needs further parliamentary scrutiny before becoming law.
