Supply warning from SK Hynix

SK Hynix shared a striking forecast for the memory market while reporting its third-quarter 2026 financial results. According to the company, memory supply shortages will persist through 2030 even as additional production capacity comes online.

A record quarter

The company posted revenue of 104.6 trillion won (about $78.1 billion) for the quarter, a 32% increase from the previous quarter. Operating profit rose 80% to 83.3 trillion won (about $62.2 billion), while net profit margin increased 38% to 39.8 trillion won (about $29.6 billion).

Half of capacity in long-term deals

SK Hynix has allocated roughly 50% of its capacity to long-term agreements extending through 2027-2028. The company is focusing this year on 10nm-class "1c" DRAM and HBM4 production.

AI demand is the driver

Persistent memory shortages mean continued price pressure on DRAM and HBM, which are critical for AI servers and data centers. How SK Hynix manages this environment, with key product prices rising, will also shape hardware costs in the period ahead.
