What changed

OpenAI has started enforcing a new limit on paid ChatGPT subscriptions. A single device and a single payment card can now be tied to only a limited number of paid accounts.

Users who reach the cap cannot start new subscriptions, and the affected accounts cannot be used on that device. Logging out does not automatically free up a slot.

Who is affected

The change mainly targets users who have been running several cheap subscriptions at once to maximize usage. Those users are likely to be pushed toward pricier options such as buying extra credits.

Why it matters

OpenAI is moving against account sharing and multi-subscription workarounds to protect subscription revenue and make usage more predictable. The company has also been reworking quota and limit structures across ChatGPT plans recently.
