What's changing?
OpenAI is preparing to merge ChatGPT's chat and work modes into a single interface. Starting in December, Plus, Pro and Business subscribers will share a common token-based quota for ChatGPT and Codex.
How the quota works
Under the new system, complex models consume more of this shared quota, while simple instant chats do not count toward it. In other words, how much and which model users rely on will directly determine their remaining allowance.
What it means in practice
The change is being read as a sign of the end of "all-you-can-prompt" pricing. ChatGPT's quality is likely to decline for heavy users on lower-cost plans, since complex requests can quickly drain the quota.
Who is affected
The change covers Plus, Pro and Business plans. The source text does not say how the free plan will be affected.
