What happened
Paris-based Mistral has released the weights of Mistral Large 4, the 1 trillion-parameter model it previewed three weeks ago. The model is now accessible on Hugging Face.
Why it matters
According to the company, the model received three more weeks of reinforcement learning shaped by customer feedback. Mistral says this extra training makes it the strongest open model for agentic coding and cyber defence.
What open weights mean
Open weights means the model's trained parameters can be downloaded. Organisations can therefore run the model on their own servers, though this does not mean the training data or the full training process is open.
Context
At 1 trillion parameters, the model sits at the high end of open-weight releases. The move strengthens the open ecosystem's case against the closed models of the largest labs.
