Gemini 4 Argon joins the model list

Google has added its new flagship model, Gemini 4 Argon, to the Gemini app. Google AI Pro or Ultra subscribers can select Argon from the model picker at the top of the conversation screen.

What it promises

According to Google, the model offers advanced reasoning, multi-step problem solving, and the ability to untangle millions of lines of code. It is said to be capable of accelerating quantum computing research.

What it means for everyday users

TechRadar's assessment suggests Argon is overkill for ordinary tasks. Faster models can deliver equally useful answers for writing an email or getting dinner suggestions. Argon's advantage may emerge in complex scenarios with multiple interacting variables and exceptions, such as comparing health insurance policies or calculating how delays cascade through a renovation budget.

The model picker problem

The report highlights that users cannot easily tell which tasks justify a more powerful model. In that case, the model picker becomes an annoyance rather than a feature. TechRadar recommends most users stick with lighter models and reserve Argon for assignments where they would struggle.
