Same design, new chip
Apple has moved its M6 system-on-chip to the 14-inch MacBook Pro and the iMac. The devices keep the designs they have had for years; the change is mainly under the hood. The announcement comes a day ahead of the company's "Pro and Tell" event in Los Angeles.
Configuration and connectivity
On the MacBook Pro, the M6 pairs 12 CPU cores with 12 GPU cores and dual neural engines for certain on-device AI workloads. RAM is configurable up to 32GB. Both models gain Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 through Apple's N1 networking chip, and the iMac adds a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port.
The iMac also offers a cut-down option with a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU. Port count depends on the chip: two Thunderbolt 4 ports with the base chip, four with the higher-core option.
