AMD and IBM team up on quantum
AMD said it will work with IBM to accelerate quantum error correction. The platform combines AMD's MI355X GPUs with IBM's quantum processor.
What is Umbra?
The new platform, called Umbra, aims to speed up error correction, one of the biggest challenges in quantum computing. Because qubits are extremely sensitive to environmental interference, detecting and correcting errors is critical for building useful quantum computers.
Timeline
The companies expect the platform to deliver significant progress in error correction by 2028. The partnership is seen as a step toward using classical GPU computing alongside quantum systems.
