Patent support for SMEs: 75% discount on first application

First-application discount for SMEs

Turkey's Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır announced a new patent support package for SMEs. Small and medium-sized businesses filing a patent for the first time will receive a 75% discount on application, search and examination report fees.

Separate discount for AI patents

Certain patent applications in the field of artificial intelligence will get a 50% discount on the expedited search report fee, aimed at speeding up the registration of AI inventions.

Why it matters

Patent fees can be a deterrent for smaller businesses. The discounts are meant to make it easier for SMEs to register their inventions and protect their intellectual property. The scheme will be administered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT).
