A new model signal from OpenAI
OpenAI's recent offer of banked resets has been read as preparation for a new model, likely GPT-6.1 Astra, according to Wccftech. There is no official announcement from OpenAI yet.
The Betelgeuse leak
On the other side of the speculation is GPT-6.2 Betelgeuse, an unreleased model said to have surfaced in online leaks. Its features and launch timing remain unconfirmed.
Distillation claim
The report also cites a personality test of Moonshot's Kimi K3.1 Pro and Z.ai's GLM-5.3 that reportedly showed striking similarities to GPT-6 Astra and Anthropic's Claude 5 series respectively. That similarity is being used to argue both models may be products of distillation, where a model is trained on outputs from a stronger one.
How solid is this?
What we have is leaks and claims, not a verified launch. Whether OpenAI will officially announce Astra, whether Betelgeuse exists, and whether the distillation claims hold up all remain open questions.
