The rulebook gets a rewrite
OpenAI has restructured its Model Spec, the public document that defines how its AI models should behave. The new version is built around five core values instead of a long list of individual rules, with "faithfulness to human intent" at the top.
What changed
- New guidance on context and human agency was added.
- Most style and tone rules were removed.
- The model was renamed to GPT.
The Model Spec is a reference document in which OpenAI publicly explains how its models should respond in different situations. Companies present such documents as a transparency commitment to both users and regulators.
The company admits the gap
OpenAI states plainly that its models do not yet fully follow the spec. That means the document is a statement of intent rather than a description of current behaviour.
