Europe's autonomous mobility race
At its GTC event in Berlin, NVIDIA said European automakers and mobility providers are using its Hyperion computing platform for autonomous driving projects. Bolt (with Lucid vehicles), Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and Einride are demonstrating selected autonomous-mobility use cases on the platform. According to the company, these efforts show potential applications for level 3 and level 4 vehicles as well as future robotaxi fleets.
Volvo adopts Hyperion
Volvo Cars will use Hyperion and NVIDIA's Alpamayo Stack software for safe automated driving. Hyperion's modular architecture is designed to work with both NVIDIA's driving software and partners' own software.
Bolt's European plan
Bolt has selected Alpamayo Stack for its European robotaxi program. The company plans to adapt the software for European roads and integrate it into vehicles from multiple manufacturers. Bolt aims to begin gathering real-world driving data in Madrid in 2027, subject to regulatory approval. A European rollout of at least 25,000 level 4-capable Lucid vehicles built on Hyperion is planned, with Germany a priority market.
New safety and developer tools
NVIDIA introduced Halos SAFE, a new framework within its Halos safety system. It combines simulation and physical testing to help developers generate measurable, traceable AV safety evidence. The company also announced Alpamayo 2 Edge, Alpamayo Agentic Factory and new Cosmos 3 Nano model variants to help developers build, customize and evaluate autonomous driving for diverse vehicles, operating conditions and regions.
