What changed?
Nvidia has released its October update for DLSS 5, the AI-powered neural rendering technology for games. According to the company, the new model runs twice as fast as the current one, marking a 10x performance leap since March.
With the update, the DLSS 5 model's footprint shrinks by nearly a quarter to 118 million parameters. VRAM usage at 4K drops by 20%, and Nvidia claims GPU overhead at similar visual fidelity is halved. The company says frame rates can improve by up to 1.4x.
A new mode for frame generation
Nvidia is also introducing a faster Performance Mode for Frame Generation on RTX 50 and RTX 40 series GPUs as well as RTX Spark laptops. A new "Preset C" mode replaces the AI model previously used to calculate optical flow for elements like UI or ray-traced effects with a faster, lighter algorithm. Nvidia says this is worth 35% in speed on the RTX 5060.
Where and when?
The new model debuts in NBA 2K27 on October 16. DLSS 5 is set to arrive in Hogwarts Legacy next month. The technology remains supported on RTX 50-series GPUs, GeForce NOW and the new RTX Spark lineup.
