A $3 trillion commitment
According to Bloomberg, five major tech companies — Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, Amazon and Oracle — have committed more than $3 trillion in future spending on data centers, leases, equipment and energy.
Who committed what?
- Alphabet: More than $1 trillion, leading the group.
- Meta: More than $800 billion.
- The individual figures for the other three companies are not included in the source.
Long-term leases
Some of these commitments consist of leases running up to 30 years, indicating that AI infrastructure spending is a decades-long plan rather than a short-term push.
Why it matters
Training and running AI models depends heavily on data center capacity, chips and energy. Commitments at this scale show that the AI race has become a long-term competition on the infrastructure side.
