What is DSX?
NVIDIA DSX is a full-stack AI factory reference architecture in which compute, networking, storage, software, power and cooling are codesigned as one system. The company said European partners are adopting the platform to produce the same AI output with less water and power.
How water use drops
Conventional cooling towers remove heat by evaporating water, requiring a constant supply of replacement water. DSX reference designs pair liquid-cooled computing with dry coolers that do not evaporate water: coolant absorbs heat in a closed loop, and outdoor radiator-like units release that heat into the air. NVIDIA says a 2-gigawatt deployment could save 54 million liters of water a day, equivalent to the daily water use of 180,000 households.
The software side
- DSX MaxLPS: Dynamic power allocation that can cut power use by up to 30% for the same number of tokens. CoreWeave, Firmus, Google Cloud, IREN, Lambda, Nebius, Nscale and Sharon AI plan to use it.
- DSX Flex: Turns AI factories into flexible power loads to support grid reliability and enable faster grid connection.
- DSX OS: New open source software that automates infrastructure lifecycle and improves health automation and resiliency.
- SimReady Central: A hub on Hugging Face for simulation-ready digital models of physical equipment, with validated power and cooling assets to speed up DSX digital twins.
Ecosystem
Technology and industrial AI leaders AVEVA, Dassault Systèmes and Siemens, along with energy and cooling providers ABB, Eaton, GE Vernova, Hitachi Energy, Schneider Electric, Siemens Energy, Trane Technologies and Vertiv, are part of the ecosystem. NVIDIA says Vera Rubin infrastructure supports 100% liquid cooling with coolant temperatures of up to 45 degrees Celsius.
