CXMT's goal: getting ahead on 4F²
Chinese memory maker CXMT is preparing to introduce a server-oriented DDR5 RDIMM product that uses the next-generation 4F² memory cell architecture by the end of 2026. The move is said to potentially leapfrog Samsung by around two years.
What is the 4F² architecture?
4F² is a memory cell architecture that packs cells into a smaller area on the semiconductor. The aim is more capacity and higher yield in the same footprint. On the server side, RDIMM refers to a memory module with error-correcting (ECC) support.
Why it matters
Against the so-called Big Three memory players — Samsung, SK hynix and Micron — CXMT's move signals intensifying competition in the memory market. With AI data centers driving memory demand, production timing and architectural advantage are becoming critical.
