Valuation more than doubles
Baseten, a startup focused on running AI models (inference), is preparing to raise roughly $2bn in a funding round that would value it at up to $30bn. According to Bloomberg, which cited people familiar with the plans, that is more than double the company's valuation in June.
Round in two tranches
The funding is expected to arrive in two tranches, the report said. Details are not yet final and figures could change.
Why it matters
Inference is the process of an already-trained AI model generating responses to user requests, and the compute cost of this work grows as models spread. The rapid rise in valuations for infrastructure players like Baseten reflects investor expectations that AI spending will shift from training models toward running them.
