Pig kidneys glass-frozen for a year and brought back to working order
A University of Minnesota-led team froze whole pig kidneys into a glass-like state at about -150°C, stored them for months and rewarmed them to working order. One kidney stayed frozen for over a year; after rewarming, the organs regained color and produced urine. The results were posted as a preprint on bioRxiv.
