What happened?
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma told employees during an all-hands meeting that Microsoft is preparing something around Grand Theft Auto VI that "no other platform holder is doing." According to sources familiar with the plans, Xbox has secured exclusive game streaming rights for GTA 6.
What it means
Under the deal, the game will only be streamable via Xbox Cloud Gaming at launch, making Xbox the sole destination for players who want to try the title through the cloud.
Open questions
The duration of the agreement has not been disclosed. Rockstar Games has yet to announce a PC version of GTA 6, which gives Xbox additional room to market its cloud service.
Why it matters
Cloud game streaming lets players enjoy titles without buying a console. An exclusive right like this could become a powerful marketing edge that sets Xbox Cloud Gaming apart from rivals.
