What happened
Volvo Cars announced it is expanding its partnership with NVIDIA to unlock new levels of safety in automated driving for future cars. The two companies have worked together for a decade.
What will be used
Volvo will combine its vehicle safety systems and engineering expertise with NVIDIA's AI and accelerated computing technologies. These include the NVIDIA Hyperion sensor and compute architecture, Halos OS and Alpamayo Stack driving software.
What is promised
The technology aims to let future Volvo cars safely navigate complex real-world environments door to door, from highways and busy urban streets to parking scenarios. The companies plan a gradual introduction of eyes-off and mind-off driving.
Where it will appear
The technology will make its debut in a next-generation Volvo car as part of the company's recently announced largest-ever product push. Volvo Cars is continuing a collaboration that began in 2017, positioning itself as a leader in software-defined electric cars.
