What happened
Ukrainian officials say Starlink imposed new limits on its service in the area without warning. According to Reuters and the Financial Times, the restriction disrupted the country's drone operations and some missions.
Timing under scrutiny
The move came days after Elon Musk wrote on X that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy "has gone too far," a remark made in response to President Donald Trump's disapproval of Ukraine targeting Russian oil refineries.
Ukraine's response
Ukrainian defense tech advisor Serhii Beskrestnov said on Telegram that "it is clear that this action is not coincidental and is related to the current political situation." The report also notes that Russia launched an attack earlier this week.
Why it matters
Starlink is critical infrastructure for Ukraine's military communications and drone guidance on the battlefield. Service restrictions directly affect operational capability, making this the latest in a series of SpaceX service limitations affecting Ukraine.
