A conditional approach from TSMC
TSMC is willing to work with Elon Musk's Terafab chip project. But the company's chairman and CEO, C.C. Wei, said that if a fab is involved, it would have to be run by TSMC.

Wei made the remarks on the company's third-quarter earnings call and added that the two sides have not yet reached an agreement. The comments were reported by Bloomberg shortly after the call.
Why it matters
Terafab sits at the center of Musk's goal to reduce dependence on outside chip production. TSMC's operating condition is the first concrete signal of how a possible partnership could be structured.
