2nm demand pulls targets forward
According to a report from Taiwan, TSMC may hit its 2027 capacity targets a year early thanks to booming demand for its 2-nanometer manufacturing technology. The 2nm process is the company's most advanced node and is critical for AI chips and other high-performance processors.
Who is placing the orders?
The report points to strong orders from NVIDIA, AMD and Apple as the main reason for the optimism. All three are lining up to use TSMC's most advanced production lines for their next-generation products.
Bank of America: lines could be booked through 2028
A separate Bank of America estimate accompanying the report suggests TSMC's leading-edge lines could be reserved until 2028. That would mark a notable shift for a historically cyclical industry.
What it means
A 2-nanometer process means smaller, more efficient transistors, which translates into more powerful and less power-hungry AI chips. If TSMC ramps capacity early, it could shape the supply of next-generation AI hardware in the coming period.
