A new task force at the White House
U.S. President Donald Trump has created a task force called the "Super Intelligence Force" to examine the risks and opportunities of artificial intelligence. Within 120 days, the group will prepare recommendations on cybersecurity, biosecurity and standards, and will review how AI companies report breaches and hacks. Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton will lead the effort.
Terminology is changing
An executive order signed in late September asks official communications to use "Super Intelligence" and "SI" instead of "artificial intelligence" and "AI." The order argues that current systems have moved beyond imitating human intelligence. For now, however, the definition legally covers the same technologies; a new federal definition is to be developed within 60 days. In other words, the change is linguistic rather than architectural.
Musk is renaming too
Asked on X, Elon Musk said SpaceX's AI unit will change its name from SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI. This would be the third rebrand for the unit and does not change the technology or the business model.
Oversight debate continues
The task force was announced after a White House meeting with AI leaders who signed voluntary commitments. But critics say corporate promises alone are not enough. RAIDS AI CEO Nik Kairinos said greater international oversight is necessary, but concentrating responsibility in a single global body is not the answer.
