Snap's first AR glasses are coming

Snap, the company behind Snapchat, has opened preorders for SPECS, its first augmented reality (AR) glasses. The glasses are expected to ship in the United States, United Kingdom and France in the fall of 2026.

Price and design

The preorder price is $2,195, including a $200 refundable deposit to reserve a pair. Made of lightweight Swiss TR90 thermoplastic, SPECS comes in two sizes, 47mm and 52mm, with the smaller size weighing 4.6 ounces.

Display and hardware

Instead of a powered display, the glasses use transparent waveguide technology to project UI elements onto seemingly ordinary lenses. Alternatively, they can project a full-color immersive display with a 51-degree field of view, equivalent to a 115-inch cinema screen about ten feet away. The electrochromatic lenses tint automatically based on lighting and are prescription compatible.

Operating system and usage

The glasses pack dual Snapdragon processors and run the proprietary Snap OS 2.0. Infrared and RGB cameras and sensors combine computer vision, contextual awareness and AI assistance to understand the user's surroundings. SPECS is a tetherless experience with an estimated 4-hour battery life under mixed use; a charging case extends total usage to 20 hours.
