NVIDIA brings its designs to OCP

NVIDIA announced it is contributing the rack and tray designs for its next-generation AI data center platform, Vera Rubin (VR200), to the Open Compute Project (OCP). The goal is to open the platform to more hardware partners and standardize how AI factories are built.

What changed in the trays?

According to the company, the new tray designs contain no cables, liquid-cooling hoses or fans. That is meant to reduce installation and maintenance complexity. The comparison is drawn against the previous-generation GB300 "Grace Blackwell Ultra" platform.

Open standards and software

As part of the announcement, NVIDIA and hyperscalers published open standards for next-generation AI factories, including AI factory design standards and grid resilience. The company also released new open source software components for DSX AI Factory.

Networking

NVIDIA said it advanced open AI networking with Meta through the NVIDIA Spectrum-X Ethernet SuperNIC. The move stands out as a step toward broader adoption of open standards in data center networking.
