What was announced?

NVIDIA announced commitments valued at $1 billion over five years to strengthen the United States' scientific research capacity. The announcement was made at the Science: A New Golden Age event in Washington, D.C.

Where will it go?

  • Super intelligence research and development capacity in critical fields such as quantum computing, healthcare and energy security
  • Higher-education research institutions across the US
  • Investments to accelerate American quantum leadership
  • Cloud service providers supporting US government mission needs

Genesis Mission connection

NVIDIA is a collaborator on several phase 2 Genesis Mission awards announced at the event, including projects in quantum computing, fusion, accelerator design and microelectronics. The company has worked with US national labs for more than two decades; last year it announced a partnership with the Department of Energy on the Genesis Mission, including building the department's largest supercomputer for scientific research at Argonne National Laboratory. That is in addition to supporting seven new systems across Argonne and Los Alamos National Laboratories.

Why it matters

By putting advanced super intelligence infrastructure in the hands of scientists, NVIDIA aims to accelerate breakthroughs in medicine, energy and materials. According to Jensen Huang, this is how America turns scientific leadership into industrial leadership.
