MI5's AI move

MI5, the UK's domestic intelligence service, has set up a new centre to track AI-driven threats. The centre was announced during the agency's annual threat assessment at its London headquarters.

In his speech, MI5 Director General Ken McCallum highlighted the new situation created by AI: "Human history has given us no experience of facing an actor which is smarter than we are, capable of out-thinking us."

OpenAI's warning to MPs

Around the same time, OpenAI told British MPs that AI-related security incidents could increase in the coming period. The company acknowledged that more incidents may occur and said institutions should be prepared.

Why it matters

AI is no longer just a race over products and models; it is now part of the national security agenda. Intelligence services dedicating units directly to AI threats shows the issue has gained priority at the state level.
